POS Payment
Restaurants commonly accept customer’s bill payment either in cash or via credit card. For credit card payment, the waiter/waitress usually brings the customer’s credit card to the bar counter to prepare the credit card charge slip for payment and then delivers the charge slip to the table for customer to sign. With the implementation of Mobile POS terminals, it is now possible to swipe customer’s credit card at the table and have customer digitally endorse payment on the spot. One less trip to the bar counter and faster customer service.
When evaluating a Restaurant POS software, one feature to look out for is the ability to do bill splitting.
The following scenario may happen.
- There may be one person paying the total bill but individuals sitting at that table may want to know how much their portion of the meal is. Some POS systems can print out each individual’s sub-total followed by a grand total for that table, in a single receipt. This is a useful service for your restaurant’s diners, as their share of the meal is already calculated for them.
- Groups of friends sitting at the same table may want to pay for their portion of the meal separately. Some POS software can cater for this. Again this could be a service differentiator for your restaurant. However, there is extra administration, time and costs overheads to process multiple billings. Consider if it is worth the extra efforts, in view of the overall table turnover situation at your restaurant.
