What Is A POS System ?

Point of Sale System or POS System, as more commonly abbreviated, is primarily an IT solution that records sales transactions.  It captures data of goods and/or services that have been bought and sold between the merchant and his customer.

A POS System will typically consist of software and a variety of hardware devices.

POS hardware such as optical and bar code scanners capture data of the goods or services transacted.

Card readers, signature pads, pin pads are used for the customer to make payment.

Printers produce receipts for customers as evidence of payment received for the deal.

At the centre of is all is the POS software that records and processes the transaction.
